1. COMPLIANCE

Comply with the rules. Understand workplace laws and regulations including payroll, employment contract and workplace policy and procedure requirements.

2. CARE FOR YOUR PEOPLE

Make time to listen, value and understand your people and communicate clearly. As a business leader be genuine and authentic whilst balancing the needs of both the businessand the needs of your employees.  And remember - a strong workplace culture is evident in the way each and every one of your people acts and behaves!

3.  RENUMERATION AND BENEFITS

Benchmark your renumeration - ensure both your renumeration and benefits are competitive to attract and retain quality employees.

4. RECRUITMENT

Hire people based on your business values. In other words, bring people into your business who are aligned to your value set. Ensure your people are aligned to the purpose of why your business exists. You want your people to operate in a way that benefits your business. In my experience behaviours are more valuable than knowledge – remember skills can be learnt.

5. ONBOARDING

Plan and be organised to ensure your new employees receive a successful introduction into your business. My advice is to focus on the importance and impact of ‘soft skills and interactions’ with your new employees – whilst still ensuring your new employees receives all the appropriate on boarding process.
